Johno Mellish

Johno Mellish is a photographic artist living in Cape Town. His work is a cross-pollination of fine art and advertising. Through commercial images of fashion models and moments from his daily life, he plays the fine line between the advertising and the personal, merging art-historical genres such as tableaux or portrait with the increasingly pervasive image culture of the present.

Johno has exhibited his work in numerous group and solo exhibitions, both locally and internationally. In 2021, he presented his photographs at ParisPhoto with THK Gallery and received a nomination for the C/O Berlin Talent award by artists Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs. Most recently, he presented a solo exhibition at the Cape Town Art Fair.

He is the author of three photo books and his work has been featured in various magazines and publications, including Zeit Magazin, Its Nice That, and Metal Magazine.
